Ryan Drive Working Group

SUMMER 2024 UPDATE:
Following a public input period in Spring 2024, the City announced on April 14 that Austin Housing Finance Corporating staff recommended awarding the Ryan Drive project to DMA Development Company, LLC. AHFC is currently conducting partnership negotiations with the selected candidate. There will be further opportunities to engage with AHFC and the awarded development team after the negotiating agreements have been finalized.

SPRING 2024 UPDATE:
After an end to negotiations with the bidder selected in the initial Request for Proposals process, in 2023 the Ryan Drive Project was transferred to the Austin Housing Finance Corporation. The AHFC conducted discussions with the Ryan Drive Working Group and neighborhood community outreach. In early 2024, the City issued a new Request for Qualifications, and selected three finalists.

2020 UPDATE:
After the working group submitted a recommendations report, Austin City Council directed staff to issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the redevelopment of the site through Resolution 20181101-024.

Since mid-2019, Economic Development Department staff and a consultant team have been working together on a strategy to focus on local benefits based on community conversations. The team will develop a site plan for a solicitation seeking a developer partner to deliver a project that meets future community goals for the property.

After all research and community review is complete, the team will seek Austin City Council approval to release the Request For Proposals and supporting solicitation materials.

This will begin a several months long process to request, review, and select a preferred response to negotiate all necessary legal agreements to redevelop the property.

In late spring 2018, the City of Austin Office of Real Estate Services intends to draft a request for proposals to redevelop an Austin Energy site located at the intersection of Ryan Drive and Justin Lane.

In January 2018 a working group of 12 citizen volunteers formed to review site materials, gather input from residents of nearby neighborhoods, and craft a set of recommendations to guide redevelopment of the parcel. The Ryan Drive Working Group was facilitated by CNA executive board members with support from the office of Council Member Leslie Pool. Group members met and worked throughout the late winter and early spring of 2018. The group’s comprehensive recommendations were presented in a public meeting on April 9, 2018.

Throughout the first quarter of 2018, the group met to review feedback gathered in community meetings, design a community survey, analyze survey results, and create a set of recommendations based on the data gathered from the community.
